Challenge
High Access is a commercial building maintenance and cleaning specialist. The company often deploys vehicle mounted boom lifts in pedestrianised areas. It was looking for some spreader plates to position under the jack legs of the vehicle mount, to protect paving and similar surfaces while also improving the overall stability of the machine.
Solution
High Access purchased some Hi Viz spreader plates from Outriggerpads. Coloured bright yellow, these pads are designed to alert pedestrians to the potential trip hazard of outrigger pads, if they pass close by to the powered access equipment. Outrigger pads – also known as spreader plates – are widely used by operators of cranes, powered access and other mobile plant such as concrete pumps. They spread the pressure of a machine’s stabilisers or outriggers on any terrain where load bearing capacity is an issue. Without their use, outriggers can puncture the ground, causing a serious accident if the equipment topples over.
Outcome
High Access successfully used the Hi Viz pads on several contracts, including working on pedestrianised high streets such as The Avenue at Spinningfields, Market Street and St Ann’s Square in Manchester, as well as St Ann’s Shopping Centre in Harrow and Mann Island in Liverpool.
